There is no real "Best gun". Each has its respective advantages and disadvantages.

The old CPS-1500/1700 is arguably the best all purpose gun yet.
But it really depends on your playing style, to find what's best for you.

Welcome to the forums, enjoy your stay.

"Best" is an opinion - although, most people's opinion is that if you want a good soaker, then the older ones from sometime back are "Best". Which exact soaker people prefer is a different matter.

The problem is that most of them can't be obtained, except via lucky eBay bidding.

Most modern soakers are considered of quite poor quality, although most people agree that of the Super Soaker line, the Flash Flood is a decent sidearm blaster, being small, and quite powerful.

Other soaker lines, such as Water Warriors by Buzz Bee are generally considered to be the best source of a decent blaster these days.

My preference of the older soakers is the CPS 2700. It's got large capacity, good power and range, and a nozzle selector. It's fairly recent, and isn't too hard to find on eBay.

When you say" more fire-power" do you mean larger output? If you do then I would try to find a CPS 2700 or 2500. If by saying more firepower you mean a more powerfull stream then I would look for a CPS 2500 or 1500.
As joannaardway said, getting CPS guns is pretty hard, and eBay is the only place to do it besides garage sales or friends.

If I were you then I would do some simple modding techniques, like adding a nozzle selector to your 1200, or doing a K-mod if you think that you are mechanically talented. But always remember to mod at your own risk.
Welcome to the soaker community!

2500's are still in high demand, it's easier to find a 2700 at a better price, then I would recommend a drill on the 2X if it isn't too much trouble, just don't use a 3/8" drill like I did, as that was just big enough to cause very slight problems. If the power is lacking on any drills, a light K-mod (up to 30 balloons) should improve it. For pure power, a high k-mod (at least around 60 balloons) with a pressure relief valve removal should do the job. However, this works better on some soakers than others. It can deliver ranges about that of the CPS 2000's or greater. (however, they're relatively difficult to pump and don't shoot for very long) Another alternative is the homemade, using schedule 40 PVC and some other materials, enabling a lot of customization to power, nozzles, etc. However, it is likely that you (or many others) aren't ready for that, so for now you might want to just search ebay and maybe get started with mods.

Any time's a fine time to build a homemade. You can check out the articles at sscentral.org or ask more about them if you're interested.

Never use more than 20-30 balloons when K-modding a CPS 2700. They're already very powerful, and their internals can't handle much more power. Plus, these days people don't K-mod too much as we can't afford to wreck older soakers as they become more expensive and harder to find.

I would prefer doing homemades around winter. The only thing is that I live in a colder area (lower part of Michigan), so I typically can't do things that require a lot of ventilation. However, by the end of spring, the weapons will be ready for summer. When the season starts, I'm going to try to make sure all my weapons are in working order.

Yeah, be careful with the 2700. The trigger is already pretty tight without a K-mod. Don't drill too big like I did, as the 3/8" I used feels quite underpowered.
